HP Notebook PC Battery Pack Replacement Program

Program Summary In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and/or other safety regulatory authorities, HP announced voluntary recalls and replacement programs for some of the battery packs used in certain HP notebooks. HP customers affected by these programs will be eligible to receive a replacement battery pack for each verified, recalled battery pack at no cost. Recall programs were announced on the following dates: May 14, 2009 October 30, 2008 April 20, 2006 October 14, 2005 HP and the battery cell manufacturers believe that certain battery packs shipped in some notebook PC products may pose a potential safety hazard to customers. The batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard. We are taking this action as part of our commitment to provide the highest quality of service to our notebook customers. We are proactively notifying you of this issue and are prepared to replace all verified, affected battery packs. Getting Started

If your notebook is listed on this program website, determine whether this recall program affects your battery by following these steps: Print a copy of these steps for your reference which will assist you in collecting the relevant information to determine if you are part of this program. Save and close all open programs. Shut down your notebook. Remove any external power source. Remove the battery from the notebook. Note: For assistance in removal of the battery, refer to the user guide supplied with the notebook. The notebook will function using AC power without a battery pack installed in the notebook.
